The Signature
Frags Difference
Choosing coral is personal. It becomes part of your reef — something to nurture, watch grow and enjoy for years.
At Signature Frags, that care begins long before you choose your specimen. We select exceptional corals for the potential we see in their colour, form and character, then carefully develop that potential through every stage of our aquaculture process.

The people behind the corals
A personal story.
A shared passion.
I’m Christian, the founder of Signature Frags. Established in October 2018, our business draws on my experience of over 20 years keeping reefs.
Signature Frags is run by me and my partner, Louise, alongside family life with our two young children. We’re a small, independent business, personally involved in the corals we grow and the customers we look after.
My fascination began with the first live corals I saw in a local fish shop. Their colours, movement and extraordinary forms felt like another world. Later, the remarkable corals appearing in the American reef scene left me wondering why the same variety was so difficult to find here in the UK.
Signature Frags grew from the desire to change that. Today, we offer corals of the calibre that first inspired us in the American aquaculture scene — grown with patience and care here in the UK.
Selection & provenance
Carefully Selected. Given Time.
We source livestock through established UK wholesalers and carefully selected exporters, assessing each specimen for distinctive colour, growth form and its potential as a mature colony.
Arrival at our farm is only the beginning.
Before an imported coral enters quarantine, we completely remove its original base. The accompanying rock, plug, substrate or skeletal base stays out of our systems; healthy retained coral begins the next stage.
It can take 12 months or longer before a lineage produces its first customer frags. That time lets us understand the coral through observation and active growth.
Patience at every stage
Quarantine, Treatment & Regrowth
In our first quarantine system, each coral has time to recover from transport and settle. We inspect regularly for parasites, tissue damage and other concerns, using appropriate dips, baths and treatments where needed.
A single dip cannot replace continued observation. We look for healthy tissue, new growth and developing colour before progressing.
Once sufficient captive growth has formed, we cut the coral again. Established material moves into a separate second-stage quarantine system, where it must settle, heal and grow once more. Each stage depends on the coral’s progress.
Our guiding principle
“The coral moves on
when the coral is ready.”
From our systems to your reef
Prepared for Life Beyond Our Farm
Your aquarium will be different from ours. That shapes how we prepare our corals.
Our systems use different combinations of dosing methods, nutrient levels, trace elements, lighting, flow and water parameters. Across these systems, we observe how each coral settles, grows and develops its colour under different captive conditions.
After both quarantine stages, established captive-grown material enters our main grow-out systems. Here, mother colonies develop and provide the foundation for the frags we offer.
We manage conditions carefully, observing how corals respond to small, controlled movements around our targets. This gives us a fuller picture of their history and performance before release. In your own reef, our advice remains simple: prioritise stability and allow time to settle.
Colour, form & character
Colour Worth Waiting For
Colour is part of what makes a coral special, and we want to understand it properly.
Lighting, alkalinity, nutrients, trace elements and flow all influence appearance. We assess colour across our systems, looking for the depth and character that first attracted us to a specimen.
Seeing that potential emerge repeatedly helps us understand how its colour develops and holds under different conditions. Your reef will shape its final appearance, but our assessment is grounded in the time we have spent growing and caring for that coral.
An established history of captive growth
Why We Take Our Time
Separate systems, repeated inspections and successive stages of regrowth require patience. They also give each lineage an established history of captive growth before we produce its first customer frags.
For you, that means more than a beautiful specimen. It means knowing how your coral has been prepared, who has cared for it and what we have observed along the way.
Living coral always carries some uncertainty. Our process is designed to reduce risk through careful preparation, while recognising that no supplier can guarantee freedom from every pest or success in every aquarium.
That responsibility matters to us because we understand the time and care you put into your own reef.
An honest representation
An Honest View. A Personal Commitment.
Our photography follows the same approach: care, patience and an honest representation of the coral.
We want our images to help you choose with confidence. Customers visiting the farm often tell us the corals look just as good — and sometimes better — in person. That is the response we want our photographs to earn.
Since October 2018, we have built Signature Frags around the pleasure of finding extraordinary corals and the responsibility of preparing them properly.
We look forward to seeing them become part of your reef.
