Deep Blue Nana is a striking blue Acropora with an unusually fine, delicate growth structure. The branches develop deep blue-to-teal colour, flashes of green through the lower tissue and distinctive rust-brown polyps that give it a really unusual contrast under reef lighting.

The very thin branching habit is one of the things that makes this piece stand out, developing into a light, intricate colony rather than the heavier structure seen in many Acropora.

I originally identified this coral as Acropora nana, which is where the name came from. As the colony has matured, however, the growth form has made me question that identification and I haven’t yet confidently pinned down the species. Until I do, Deep Blue Nana remains our working name for this distinctive piece.
