Below Deck, a seriously striking Australian Acropora with a story behind the name. We first spotted this colour combination while watching Below Deck Down Under, and when we later came across the coral itself, the name was pretty much decided for us.

The colour is exceptional. Deep red to burgundy dominates the branches, with warmer red-orange highlights through the corallites before giving way to vivid electric-blue growth tips. As the colony matures, that blue becomes even more pronounced against the red body, creating a contrast that can be picked out from right across the reef.

It’s also a fast, confident grower once settled, developing long upright branches that give the colours plenty of room to show. This isn’t just another red Acropora with blue tips — the depth of the red and intensity of the blue put it firmly amongst the more unusual pieces we grow.

Born in Australia, named Below Deck and dressed in red and blue — thankfully, this is one bit of drama we’re very happy to keep in the reef.
